How This Blog Will Teach You How to Fish

fishing boat

This is meant to be a "quick-and-dirty" guide on how to fish and what equipment you'll need to do it. It's perfect for people that are new to fishing and want to see what it takes to catch that first fish. It won't teach you how to go deep sea fishing for Tuna or catch Jaws necessarily. But it'll definitely teach you how to fish from your friends boat or at that river/lake/dock/beach that's around the corner from you.

This blog will teach you how to fish by introducing general topics and then covering them in detail so that although you're new to fishing, you'll know everything you need to so that you can catch some fish. I'll post content that's great for beginner fishing...things like videos, tutorials, pictures, how-to's, and useful websites. Topics covered will be those which will prove useful to a new or novice angler.

Some of the topics that we'll go through include...

  • Basic Fishing Equipment (Rods & Reels, Line, Lures, etc.) & How to Use It
  • Wait, it makes a difference if it's saltwater or freshwater?
  • Essentials of the tackle box
  • Bait vs. Lures
  • Fishing Techniques
  • How the hell do I hook a fish?
  • Ok, I hooked one. Now how the hell do I land it?
  • Catch & Release or Keep it?
  • Cleaning & Preparing Fish
  • When/Where do I fish?
  • Anything else that'll be useful in teaching you people how to fish

I know that when you're new to fishing, you have a lot of questions so if there are topics I didn't mention that you would like for me to cover specifically, just go ahead and let me know in the comments and I'll be sure to do it for ya.

NOTE: There's a huge variety of rods, reels, kinds of line, etc. This blog will cover the equipment that is most pertinent to people who are just learning how to fish.

Here's a quick list of general fishing tips that seem pretty minor and obvious but can make the difference between a successful or a disastrous fishing experience. For example...No bug spray + lots of mosquitos = NO FUN

There are few things more exciting or satisfying than handing the rod to someone new to fishing and watching the smile come to their face as they hook up with their first fish. That's the inspiration behind this blog. Everyone should be taught how to fish and have the experience of catching a fish. That's what this blog aims to do...put that rod in your hands for the first time and show you how to fish.

Fishing, like golf, can make you the happiest, most relaxed person on the planet...or it can make you want to rip your hair out and slap a baby (Disclaimer: do not strike infants). But even if you're not catching fish...it doesn't get much better than sitting by the water and simply enjoying a beautiful day. Like they say, "a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work". Fishing involves a LOT of patients. But learning how to fish is something that can pay dividends for years to come.

In the next post we'll get started with the Basic Fishing Equipment you'll need and how to use it. Be sure to subscribe so that you know as soon as any new, helpful content is posted. If you'd like to learn more about myself you can head over to the About Me page
